First Lesson of Shri Gun-Vidya
( Gun Vidya Ka Pratham Path)

The lesson for the removal of sorrow and unrest, and the attainment of bliss and divine power is as follows:

1. Remain detached and unfaithful to ideals and commands of anxious, angry individuals scorched by desires clouded by ignorance.

2. Practice celibacy, renouncing sensual pleasures beyond bodily necessities.

3. Do not accumulate wealth through egotistic intellect.
Note: Feelings of possessiveness lead to worry and fear. Serving with body and wealth, as per the command of the meditation-bestowing enlightened beings, is a means of atonement for such possessiveness—a path toward peace of mind.

4. Constantly renounce thoughts of envy and hatred.

5. Do not offer reproach through egotistic intellect.

6. Do not be angry at anyone.

7. Renounce insistence on having your commands obeyed, and as much as possible, obey the commands of others.

8. Earn a livelihood that is non-violent and aligned with righteous governance. Use acquired body, wealth, knowledge, and strength in service of meditative devotees, and strive to transform worldly people who disturb divine order into divine instruments.

9. While chanting the Maha Mantra ‘Om Anandamay Om Shantimay’, have an intense desire to accumulate the spiritual wealth of meditation and remembrance of the bliss-bestowing divine form of the Lord.

10. Renounce all feelings of superiority, and practice adopting the humble attitude of a "priest-servant."
Note: The egoistic attitude of being a master leads to anger; hence, practicing respectful obedience leads to pacification of ego.

11. Practice seeing the blissful Lord in all inert and conscious entities, and continuously redirect the contrary tendencies of the demonic mind.

12. You simply do not have time to observe, listen to, speak of, or contemplate the faults of the divine playful, cosmic form of the universal Lord.

13. Hold faith in promptly and joyfully carrying out even severe or simple commands of Shri Mahapurush Dev.

14. Maintain an undisturbed daily routine according to discipline (Ref: Bhagavad Gita Chapter 6, Verses 16–17).

15. Speak lovingly and beneficially, with words full of experience.

16. Be enthusiastic in taking lower roles for yourself and giving higher roles to others in service work.

17. Be exceedingly joyful when met with criticism or insult during auspicious deeds that align with divine will.

18. Reveal the sight of a radiant, peaceful, and blissful face filled with Brahmic brilliance.

19. Place firm faith in the quality of patience, and practice tolerance.

20. Keep the heart filled with gratitude, and become an ideal of humility.

21. Renounce the desire for service, worship, honor, praise, and prestige for yourself, and practice giving and encouraging these toward worthy recipients.

Note: Keep this in memory! The only true recipients of honor and worship are the enlightened, bliss-bestowing, fully absorbed Mahapurush Devs. Otherwise, performing actions with desire for recognition leads only to worry and anger. Continuously serve, honor, and elevate the right individuals with the right means to collect the wealth of divine qualities and bliss.

Students of virtue and knowledge, following divine instructions, should perform acts of service with joy and courage, in a disciplined manner. As a result, they should become practitioners of equanimity—remaining balanced in situations of gain and loss, happiness and sorrow, victory and defeat. This is the true sign of their devotion.

Let it be remembered: Loss of wealth, people, fame, honor, and prestige—every adversity—is ultimately beneficial for the righteous, like the principle of seed and tree. On the other hand, even favorable conditions eventually turn into adversity for those who are driven by demonic desires.

Those who worship the attainment of equanimity, and who practice patience with tolerance, engaging joyfully in chanting, meditation, and pure service with self-restraint—only they will be victorious devotees filled with true faith. Otherwise, people driven by selfish love, attachment, and ego will live lives filled with sorrow and unrest, surrounded by various misfortunes.
